Wenx’ World: Tata for now.

“One-way flights only!” is an old globetrotter’s rule – and I’ve got four of those lined up. For now. Yay! And I might buy a few more during my travels. By the time you read these lines, I will have already been on my  first 2, sweating in heat.

My upcoming trip will include four countries, a rental car, an ultra marathon, a visit to a special cemetery and a nation without alcohol. And that’s just the basics. The in between will be developed on the spot. Sounds expensive for a PhD student? It’s not that expensive, I find. But I am greatly experienced in finding cheap flights, travelling simply and on a budget. This time, I am actually lucky I was able to save quite a bit of money (selling my body and brains to science), so my budget will be more than usual: $70/day, but then also includes everything, even the flights already booked.

It’s always a funny feeling, leaving home, friends, hobbies and your PhD behind. Especially that PhD work feels strange to me at the moment. I tried to put a lot of work in the last weeks to be carefree during my holidays. But marking my students’ exams and coding hurdles made it not happen. In fact, at this point, I am frustrated enough with the coding that I am happy to get away from it all. No anxiety or panic like some of the PiledHigher&Deeper comics suggest. Getting away from it all is just what I need. Different languages, different culture, different lands, different food, different drinks, different days. So, everyone, I’m outa here. Out of the cold, into new experiences.

See you out there – Wenx
